A Fraction of My 15 Minutes

|
As the prevailing truth in the modern world goes, each of us have our own 15 minutes. I just hope that I only spent a small fraction of it.
Inside the Tram of Intramuros. (L-R) Jeff Velasco, Yael Fernandez, Helen Aranda, and I with a very hearty smile.

Four us were picked to represent the Mabuhay Guides for the pictorial and interview in Fort Santiago, Manila with writer Pierre Calasanz. It's for their arts and travel issue and they're coming up with a feature on tourists guides. We were asked a series of questions to give the readers of Town & Country a bigger idea of who we are and what we can do.

There are other questions that hit me. The most memorable one would probably about anything that we have picked up/learned from our project director, Susan Calo-Medina. I quickly blurted out her famous and recurring line in our meetings: "You are not as good as you think you are nor as bad."

"You are not as good as you think you are nor as bad."

That line keeps my feet on the ground. There will be good tours and there will always be not-so-good ones but the important thing is that we stick to what we learned in our training, keep the guests safe, and give it our best.

The interview took almost an hour to finish. We were taking turns in answering the writer's questions. After that, we had our pictorial. I have to say that in front of my close friends, I can be out-of-control and loose but when I'm in the company of my colleagues and guests, a little bit of self-control didn't hurt :-)

This was in the middle of February. I was excited to get my hands on a copy of this issue because it's my first time to see my mug in a magazinepart of my 15 minutes.

Needless to say, it's added exposure for the group. During the interview, I was telling myself that I carry the name of the group and I consider it as an honor and privilege. There will be a lot of experiences along the way that will sink my heart or catapult it beyond heaven but I'm comfortable with another modern truth: I'm not as good as I think I am nor as bad.
